Dodgers vs Brewers

Dodgers vs Brewers: This Friday night will kick off one of the most intriguing championship series matchups we ve Brewers vs Dodgers seen in a long time. Game 1 of the National The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers square off for the MLB pennant.

The biggest weakness on the Brewers is the rotation, but the bullpen is ridiculous and in the best shape it’s ever been (read more here as to why).

The two starters the Brewers are most likely to heavily lean on are Jhoulys Chacin and Wade Miley.

In Chacin’s last 11 regular season starts, he pitched to a 2.67 ERA. On short rest in Game 2 of the NLDS, he threw five scoreless innings while only allowing three hits (all singles).

Miley has simply become a different pitcher since discovering the cutter (more here on that from last month). He had a 2.57 ERA in 15 starts.

Also, Gio Gonzalez pitched well once he was acquired and the Dodgers — while it’s a far cry from what it was in 2016 — hit lefties worse than they do righties.

Expect Counsell to be creative with a bullpen day being possible and he’ll likely only try to get five innings, max, from his starters. What for aggressive and early hooks if there is trouble.

Dodgers offense is potent and dangerous
The Dodgers led the NL in runs and home runs. That was with only 103 games of Justin Turner and 66 of Manny Machado. Seven players hit at least 20 home runs. It’s nine if we include Machado (37 total) and Brian Dozier (21).

They are especially stellar at present. In September (including Oct. 1 with the tiebreaker), the Dodgers hit .274/.359/.490. A league-average line this season was .248/.318/.409. In four games against the Braves in the NLDS, the Dodgers didn’t hit for average, but they drew 27 walks, hit eight homers and averaged five runs scored per game.

Dodgers will be more starter-heavy with pitching
The Dodgers definitely have a weaker bridge from starter to closer (Kenley Jansen) than the Brewers (who don’t even technically have a closer so much as a stable of them). Where they make up for it is a superior rotation.

Clayton Kershaw is coming off perhaps his best career postseason start. And while he’s not the best pitcher in the world anymore, he’s a Hall of Famer with a 2.73 ERA in his age-30 season.

Hyun-Jin Ryu made only 15 starts this season, but he pitched to a 1.97 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with the best strikeout and lowest walk rates of his career. He looked like an ace in seven scoreless innings (4 H, 0 BB, 8 K) against the Braves in Game 1 of the NLDS, too.

Walker Buehler had a rough go of it in Game 3 of the NLDS, but that was really only one inning and we could actually say it was just two or three hitters in that inning. Overall, he’s had an excellent rookie season, one that would win him Rookie of the Year if there weren’t two historically-good position players 20 and younger. Buehler really kicked it in down the stretch. In his last 12 regular-season starts.

The Dodgers then need to get the ball to Jansen. Expect Pedro Baez, who had a good year, Kenta Maeda, Scott Alexander, Caleb Ferguson and Ryan Madson to get the most use. It’s not a great group, but it’s plenty capable.

Again, though, the rotation is good enough for us to see some seven-inning outings and that obviously limits the impact of the bullpen as a whole.

The following players came off the bench during the NLDS round for the Dodgers: David Freese, Chris Taylor, Joc Pederson, Max Muncy, Brian Dozier, Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp. The depth of the roster gives manager Dave Roberts so many options in platoon situations and with pinch hitting and/or double switching.

Likewise, Brewers manager Craig Counsell has good bench options. One of Shaw, Moustakas or Schoop starts every game on the bench. Domingo Santana hit 30 homers last season and hit .414/.469/.793 with five doubles and two homers in 32 pinch-hit appearances this season. Curtis Granderson had a .355 on-base percentage with 13 homers in 375 plate appearances against right handers this season. Hernan Perez is a good base-stealing threat off the bench and played every position except catcher this season. Keon Broxton is an excellent defensive outfielder for the late innings.

The Brewers ranked fifth in defensive efficiency (the percentage of balls in play converted to outs) in the majors while the Dodgers were ninth. The Brewers were second in defensive runs saved and the Dodgers were seventh. The Brewers do sacrifice some range when Shaw is at second base and they make too many errors, but overall they rate really well. Cain in center is amazing.

I know about the full-season record and how hot the Brewers are right now, but the Dodgers feel like they are obviously — even if it’s close — the better and more talented team. I also feel like the Brewers have something really special going on right now and absolutely can stand toe to toe with them. Let’s go with Brewers in seven, with Yelich hitting a walk-off bomb. Wouldn’t that be something?

Cavaliers vs Pistons

Cavaliers vs Pistons :The Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers play at 7 p.m. Friday in an NBA preseason game at Breslin Center in East Lansing. Here are three Pistons vs Cavaliers Brandon Knight records a career-high 28 points as well as seven assists in the Pistons’ big win over the Cavaliers.

Friday night is the first time since Mateen Cleaves’ rookie year with the Pistons that the NBA has held a preseason game at Breslin Center. That game, in October of 2000, pitted the Pistons against the Utah Jazz. Before that, it was about a once-a-decade thing.

In 1991, the Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets met in the preseason at Breslin. On Oct. 15, 1981, Magic Johnson’s Los Angeles Lakers sold out Jenison Field House for an exhibition against rookie Isiah Thomas and the Pistons.

In the 1980s, you also might have found Magic and some NBA friends playing pickup basketball upstairs at Jenison Field House or at the old Downtown Lansing YMCA, or in a charity game at Don Johnson Field House.

Perhaps the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs can arrange a Denzel Valentine-Bryn Forbes preseason game at Breslin in the near future.

This game is technically a Cavaliers home game. It’s happening at Breslin because of MSU grad and donor Dan Gilbert, who paid for part of the recent Breslin Center renovations and owns the Cavs. There is a free Cavs Fan Fest outside the Gilbert Pavilion entrance at Breslin beginning at 4:30 p.m.

As of Thursday afternoon, you could still purchase tickets together as low as the eighth row for $45 apiece. Only lower-bowl seats are being sold and those who initially purchased upper-bowl tickets have been upgraded to lower seats. Remaining chair-back seats in the lower bowl start at $35. Tickets can be purchased at MSUSpartans.com, under “tickets” and then “order tickets.” Or call 517-355-1610.

If LeBron James was still on the Cavs and playing Friday, this might be a sellout. Instead, the Cavs are less interesting, though still have Kevin Love, J.R. Smith and Co. The Pistons’ roster is probably more of a draw, featuring Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard, etc. With 20 players on Detroit’s preseason roster, it’s unclear how many of the regulars will play and how much.

Most importantly, this game marks the return of former Lansing State Journal prep writer James Edwards, who now covers the Pistons for The Athletic Detroit.

Fans of all ages are encouraged to stop by a FREE Cavaliers Fan Fest taking place outside Gilbert Pavilion on gameday beginning at 4:30 p.m. Cavaliers Fan Fest will feature interactive games, performances by the Cavaliers Scream Team hip hop troupe and Cavalier Girls dance team, appearances by Cavs mascots Sir C.C. and Moondog, and more!

Gilbert Pavilion is a grand entrance to the facility that honors the success and history of both the MSU men’s and women’s basketball programs. Gilbert Pavilion opened on October 20th, 2017 and was funded through private donations, including the lead gift from Cavaliers Chairman and Michigan State alumnus Dan Gilbert and his wife, Jennifer Gilbert. This will mark the Cavaliers first-ever game at the Breslin Center.

The evening before the game, on Thursday, October 11th, the Cavs will host a free private basketball clinic for children from select local youth-based charitable organizations. Cavs Academy coaches will lead the clinic and will be joined by Cavs coaches and players to provide instruction and fun for the invited kids.

Rockets vs Grizzlies

Rockets vs Grizzlies. The Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies are two of the most exciting teams in the NBA, Grizzlies vs Rockets and it is always a pleasure when the two match up. You can expect a great time at the arena during Rockets vs. Grizzlies games.

Houston closes out the preseason tonight in Memphis. It’ll be the end to a pretty uneventful preseason, which is exactly what you want.

Instead of heading to Birmingham, this game is actually in Tennessee. The Rockets will return to Houston to begin the season proper on Wednesday. That game will be at the same time as Game 4 of the ALCS with the Houston Astros also in town, so that will be fun.

Tonight, the Rockets will look to get a little work in for the rotation players and then get one final look at the end of the bench guys. I’m sure James Harden will try to play 30+ minutes, but the team is best suited if they rest and prepare for the regular season.

We’ll get back into the swing of things on Wednesday. For now, let’s enjoy one more meaningless basketball game.
The Houston Rockets start their quest for an NBA championship tonight in Houston Memphis Birmingham, Alabama. It will be Houston fans’ first chance to see some of the new acquisitions in Rockets red.

The headliner of the group is obviously Carmelo Anthony, acquired as a free agent this summer for a minimum deal after securing a buyout with the Atlanta Hawks. Daryl Morey has been after Melo for years, and tonight he’ll finally see those efforts fully realized on a college basketball court. I’ve expressed optimism regarding Melo’s outlook with the Rockets, and I’ll certainly be watching with a close eye.

Obviously, Melo isn’t the only new toy for Mike D’Antoni and his staff. A lot has been made of James Ennis III and how he fits into this squad as a Trevor Ariza replacement. His transition into that role will be vital to Houston’s success this season. Plus, Ennis has to like the fact that he’s playing the same role as a guy making $15 million this season. If Ennis plays his cards right, he could be moving up a tax bracket or two next summer.

Michael Carter-Williams and Marquese Chriss are less heralded additions, but MCW looks to be the fourth guard that Houston didn’t have last season and Chriss will try to right his career after underwhelming in Phoenix.

Local boy Rob Gray could get some run tonight, as could draft picks Zhou Qi and Isaiah Hartenstein. Vincent Edwards, Gary Clark, and Bruno Caboclo are the other new faces in Houston.

Much will be made of this game despite any caveat I provide, but remember to take everything with a grain of salt. We’re unlikely to see how the rotation will play out since we’re unlikely to see any major pieces on the floor in the second half. Even if Melo starts, will he play heavy minutes in the first quarter or will he play like Chris Paul did last season and go to the bench early in order to help run the second unit? Maybe he’ll go 0-20, but despite what “Russ4Prez420” on Reddit says, that doesn’t mean the entire season is lost for Houston.

Oh, and we get to see James Harden play basketball again. And that’s pretty freaking sweet. He is the best, after all.

Trail Blazers vs Kings

Trail Blazers vs Kings :Trail Blazers – Kings Tickets – West Coast Rivals. … The Sacramento Kings are based in the Western Conference of the Pacific Division and were founded in 1945, Kings vs Trail Blazers entering the NBA in ’48. They wear purple, black and silver and have picked up one NBL championship and one NBA.

The Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers meet Friday in NBA preseason action at the Moda Center.

The Sacramento Kings finish up the preseason on the end of a rare back-to-back after getting blasted by the Utah Jazz. The Kings are averaging 113.8 points on 45.1 percent shooting and allowing 113 points on 48.3 percent shooting. Yogi Ferrell is averaging 16 points and two assists while Harry Giles III is averaging 15.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Buddy Hield is the third double-digit scorer and Nemanja Bjelica is dishing three assists. The Kings were blown out badly Thursday night against the Jazz and the defensive effort overall in these preseason games haven’t been good.

Giving up 100 or more points in all five games this preseason, the Kings clearly have their work cut out for them with the regular season right around the corner. The Sacramento Kings have lost eight of their last 10 preseason games.

The Portland Trail Blazers look for another victory to finish the preseason a game above a .500 record. The Trail Blazers are averaging 111.8 points on 46.7 percent shooting and allowing 105.3 points on 41.5 percent shooting. Damian Lillard is averaging 14.3 points and 4.7 assists while CJ McCollum is averaging 13 points and 3.3 rebounds. Jake Layman is the third double-digit scorer and Jusuf Nurkic is grabbing 8.3 rebounds.

The Trail Blazers have shown great balance when you consider their star backcourt has barely played through three games. The Trail Blazers are shooting 40.9 percent from three and have been improved defensively the last couple of games. The one area to improve is the rebounding, as the Trail Blazers are 25th currently in preseason rebounds per game. The Portland Trail Blazers have seven of their last nine preseason games.

The Kings are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 0 days rest and the under is 4-0 in Kings last 4 road games. The Trail Blazers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Friday games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

The Kings are 1-3-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the under is 30-12 in the last 42 meetings.
The end of preseason is near. After running over Maccabi Haifa on Monday, the Sacramento Kings draw a tougher opponent Thursday night when the Utah Jazz drop by Golden 1 Center.

Sacramento currently sits at 2-2 for the exhibition season. They’ll finish things off with a back-to-back as they will play in Portland on Friday.

Harry Giles III and Marvin Bagley III will get their first look at former Duke teammate, Grayson Allen, when the Jazz roll through town. The 23-year-old rookie was selected by Utah with the 21st pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after spending four seasons with Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils.

Here are three things to watch as Sacramento looks to battle a tough Western Conference foe.The Kings drafted De’Aaron Fox with the fifth overall selection last season, but it was Donovan Mitchell, the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, that found massive success as a rookie.

The two guards should see time against each other Thursday night. Fox has the potential to defend a player like Mitchell, but he’ll have to show that he can sustain the pressure for an extended period of time.

Mitchell was an offensive juggernaut in his first season out of Louisville. He led all rookies in scoring at 20.5 points per game and finished second behind Philly’s Ben Simmons in the Rookie of the Year balloting.

Rudy Gobert has developed into a weapon for Jazz head coach, Quin Snyder. Willie Cauley-Stein will get the first opportunity to shut down the 7-foot Frenchman, but it will take a team effort from Sacramento.

Gobert is outstanding in the pick-and-roll, he hits the glass hard and he alters more shots than any other player in the game. The Kings need to keep a body on Utah’s big man or he’ll ruin their evening.

Preseason is an opportunity for the young players to get minutes without having to look over their shoulder. We have seen some good things during the preseason, but also plenty of mistakes.

On paper, Utah looks like a 50-plus win team this season. This is a quality opponent and another chance to hit the floor and get better for Sacramento, regardless of the final score.

Warriors vs Lakers

Warriors vs Lakers : The Golden State Warriors lost their first preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Get ready for five probably premature matchup observations! Lakers vs Warriors Although the Lakers may not seem to be the top threat to the Golden State Warriors,Get team statistics for the Golden State Warriors vs Los Angeles Lakers basketball game.

Just two days ago in Sin City, the Warriors succumbed to the energy of the Lakers and their new king, losing 113-123 in an up-and-down affair.

Coach Steve Kerr felt the Warriors may have mismanaged their energy in the first half of this game:

Prior to their first preseason meeting of 2018, the Warriors had a seven game regular season win streak against the Lakers, though the young Lakers took the Warriors to overtime twice last season.
Brandon Ingram had a solid game against the Warriors on Wednesday, going +11 with 26 points, 5 rebounds, an assist and steal in 26 minutes.

Ingram shooting 15 of 17 from the charity stripe is indicative of his ability to capitalize on aggressive play, and it will be up to Jordan Bell, Kevon Looney and Durant to do a better job of slowing him down tonight.
Steph Curry and Klay Thompson will try to improve on their 23 and 20 point respective performances against Los Angeles earlier this week.

Though James downplayed any potential rivalry between the Warriors and Lakers, one can’t help but wonder if the Splash Brothers might better understand the potential of the Bay vs LA animosity being catalyzed by James’ presence and this new-look showtime squad.

Don’t be surprised if Curry and Thompson put in a special effort in San Jose to remind the team from Hollywood about who is king in the Pacific Division.

After missing the last three preseason games, Green is expected to play in the team’s final tuneup against the Lakers Friday night.

“Draymond is doing better,” Kerr said. “He feels good, he should play tomorrow.”

On Thursday, Green participated in the team’s one-hour non-contact practice at Stanford and if he plays, it will likely be on a minutes restriction, according to Kerr.

Green, who injured the knee last week, participated in a solo workout during a closed session prior to the team’s open practice at Oracle Arena Sunday afternoon. During Friday’s 122-94 win over the Kings, Green rode a stationary bike outside the Warriors’ locker room.

Coach Kerr wants crisper play in preseason rematch vs Lakers.

Despite winning three of the last four titles, the Warriors are still held to a high standard, even in the preseason.

So far, the Warriors haven’t quite matched that standard.

In four games, they’ve averaged 19 turnovers and 26.3 fouls per contest, while giving up 40 percent from three-point range. With the season under a week away, Kerr wants that to change.

“Better defense, our defensive effort the last two games has been poor,” Kerr said. “We got to limit our fouls. We’ve been fouling too much, so those are the two things I’m really looking for.”

In the final dress rehearsal, Kerr says he plans to ramp up his all-stars minutes to 30 minutes each, as it will be the last time the team will play until Tuesday’s matchup against the Thunder.

Stephen Curry happy with Under Armour’s latest addition.

This week, Sixers center Joel Embiid signed a five-year deal with the shoe company said to make him “the highest-paid player at his position.” Curry, who joined the brand in 2013, was happy with the decision.

“It’s amazing for the brand,” Curry said of Embiid, who averaged 22.9 points and 11 rebounds last season. “Its amazing for what we’re trying to build. He’s obviously a guy on the rise that has a lot of potential and he’s shown what he’s capable of. I think the prospect he brings to the shoe game in terms of giving back and taking care of the community with this opportunity, that’s something he’s really set a foundation for and should be something our team at Under Armor can amplify. It’s pretty amazing, growing our roster the way we are.”

Embiid’s signing is a byproduct of Curry. When the Warriors’ guard signed with the company it had a small social footprint, with its biggest athlete being then-Milwaukee Bucks guard Brandon Jennings. Since he signed, Curry has helped the company rack in close to $200 million annually.

“That’s why I joined them.” Curry said. “Because I knew it was all about building and obviously having been kind of out front and center with the UA for five going on six years now, we’ve had a lot of learning lessons, we’ve had a lot of hot spots and starting build momentum.”

Warriors bring in a new addition.

Golden State signed former second-round pick Deyonta Davis to an Exhibit 10 contract Thursday afternoon.

Davis, who averaged 4.3 points and 3.2 rebounds last season with the Memphis Grizzlies, was selected 31st overall in 2016. This summer, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings and subsequently waived. His deal stipulates that he can get up to $50,000 if he elects to join the Warriors’ G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz if he gets waived by Golden State at the end of the season.

“It’s hard to get a big guy in the G-League and a guy who’s recently drafted in the first round,” Kerr said. “We’re happy to have him.”

In recent years, the Santa Cruz Warriors have shown the ability to develop NBA prospects. Last season, then-two-way guard Quinn Cook averaged 9.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds, earning a playoff roster spot and a guaranteed contract for this season.

Spurs vs Magic

Orlando Magic-San Antonio Spurs tickets are on sale now and if you consider yourself a basketball fan you can’t miss Magic vs Spurs your opportunity to see these two NBA teams face off! Whether you are devoted to the Orlando Magic or are Buy San Antonio Spurs vs Orlando Magic tickets at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The game was already decided. The Orlando Magic had won and were waltzing to an easy victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. But coach Steve Clifford wanted more.

As the Magic came to a late timeout in the fourth quarter, Clifford was driving his team hard. Especially young guard Isaiah Briscoe. This is not the time to let go of the rope or let concentration slip. Even in a nearly 30-point game of a meaningless preseason game.

This is the time to focus in on those little details and make sure the team is getting them right. There is a standard the team must play to.

The momentary lapse was not going to distract from what looked like the Magic’s best overall game of the preseason.

One where the team looked connected and together defensively. Where the team limited the Grizzlies to one offensive rebound and worse than 40-percent shooting for much of the game. Where the Magic had 26 assists on 36 field goal makes and went to the line for 40 free throw attempts.

About the only thing the Magic might complain about from their key players in a 102-86 win over the Grizzlies at Amway Center on Wednesday was the missed free throws — exactly half of those 40 attempts. And perhaps the sometimes foul-heavy play.

But the Magic locked in defensively and shut down the Grizzlies in almost every facet. They had control of the game and raced ahead in the second quarter and maintained and grew the lead throughout the second half.

Orlando was not quite treating this game like a “dress rehearsal” as the penultimate preseason game often turns into. But the starters got plenty of minutes and just went about their work.

If there was a preseason game that showed exactly what the Magic want to be once the regular season begins in one week, this was it.

Jonathan Isaac returned to the lineup for the first time since the preseason opener last Monday. The sprained ankle seemed to leave Isaac no worse for the wear and he made an immediate impact for the Orlando Magic, scoring a team-high 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Jonathan Isaac’s play overall was just impressive. He never forces anything offensively and does a good job keeping the ball moving. But he will also find his space to attack and be active. Defenses have to respect his shot — he made both of his 3-pointers. And offenses have to know where he is or he will disrupt the entire flow for them.

Isaac got caught a few times being overly physical and getting called for the NBA’s new point of emphasis. He had five fouls including four fouls through the second quarter. But the Magic were willing to let him play through it in the preseason. He made the most of his minutes.

Aaron Gordon continues to impress with his feel for the game and knowing when it is his time to take over. He scored a team-high 15 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Aaron Gordon hit his jumper fairly consistently and his shot selection was generally good. All the early concerns about him seem to be shedding away in many ways.

Gordon is moving off the ball far more effectively now, it seems. He scored on several cuts and was able to catch, turn, square up and shoot. Or just dunk the ball. Whatever the situation called for. He broke off isolation forays on several occasions throughout the game and that is a big step forward for him.

Things came easily for Gordon. And he added some strong defense to boot. Guarding Chandler Parsons much of the evening, Aaron Gordon did a good job keeping his man in front, keeping the ball moving and making shots when it called for. A solid game.

Brazil vs Saudi Arabia

Brazil vs Saudi Arabia : Tite will look to pave the next era of the Brazil side when they face Saudi Arabia in an international friendly ahead of a meeting with Argentina. International Match match Saudi Arabia vs Brazil Preview and stats followed by commentary highlights and match report.

Brazil will get the first stage of their rebuilding process following a disappointing World Cup underway when they face Saudi Arabia in a friendly fixture taking place in Riyadh.

Tite has brought stars such as Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Philippe Coutinho to Saudi Arabia but, with one eye looking ahead to another friendly match against Argentina, he will be likely to assess his squad and probe with different formations.

Tite is predicted to experiment with his side ahead of a massive friendly fixture against Argentina, but will be expected to slot Jesus straight into attack – while the likes of Ederson, Neymar and Coutinho are expected to be handed starts.Real Madrid defender Marcelo has been ruled out of the meetings due to injury.

Tottenham forward Lucas Moura has earned a recall to the national side after being away for two years, and the likes of Richarlison are also expected to be called upon at some stage in the game – after the young Everton starlet was handed his first call-up during the last international break, scoring against El Salvador on his first start.

Brazil won both of their friendly matches against the US national team and El Salvador last month but will still be nursing the pain of being eliminated at the quarter-final stage in the World Cup at the hands of Belgium.
As far as 2019 Asian Cup preparations go, they do not come much more difficult.

On Friday, Saudi Arabia face Brazil in a friendly at Riyadh’s King Saud University Stadium, as the five-time world champions’ Global Tour takes them to the Middle East for the first time since 2010.

The match, only Saudi’s second since this summer’s Fifa World Cup, serves not only as an important tune-up ahead of January’s Asian Cup in the UAE, but represents part of a four-team tournament staged in the Kingdom this coming week.

Alongside Saudi and Brazil, Argentina meet Iraq on Thursday in Riyadh, before the annual ‘Super Clasico’ between the two South American rivals takes place on Tuesday at King Abdullah Sports City.

The tournament, initiated by Turki Al Sheikh, the head of Saudi’s General Sports Authority, has been devised in part to provide the national team high-calibre opposition in the build-up to the Asian Cup.
Saudi Arabia, three-time continental champions, have been drawn in Group E alongside Qatar, Lebanon and North Korea. They open their account against North Korea in Dubai on January 8.

With that forming his focus, manager Juan Antonio Pizzi says he is grateful for Friday’s tough test in Riyadh.

“Having Brazil and Argentina in the ‘Super Clasico’ tournament brings a lot of momentum to this tournament,” the Argentine said. “Playing Brazil will deliver great benefits for our preparations for the Asian Cup.

“The support we at the national team and the league have been getting from Turki Al Sheikh has created a more competitive environment.”

The composition of the Brazil squad confirms the difficulty of the task at hand. Manager Tite has brought with him to Saudi a strong side, with both their matches expected to feature a host of marquee names, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar, Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.

Uruguay vs South Korea

Uruguay vs South Korea : World Cup quarter-finalists Uruguay take on Son Heung Min’s South Korea in friendly fixture with the hosts on a high after Asian Games’ gold medal welcome South Korea vs Uruguay to Seoul in an international friendly as they hope to expand on their Asian Games win. International Match match Korea game…

Despite crashing out in the group stages in the summer, their 2-0 win over Germany was one of the most historic results they’ve ever achieved. Also, a side captained by Son Heung-min, won Asian Games gold, which exempted him and many other from military service.

They’ll be targeting Asia Cup glory come January in the UAE.Uruguay too will be hoping to be lifting silverware in 2019.

Óscar Tabárez led them to Copa América glory in 2011 and will be hoping for a repeat in Brazil next summer. This is the first of two games in the far east for Uruguay; they are in Japan four days after this one.

It is likely to be a productive trip and they should leave Seoul with a confidence boosting win.South Korea will try to end a winless streak against Uruguay when they host the South American giants for a friendly football match this week.

South Korea, ranked 55th in the September FIFA rankings, will face fifth-ranked Uruguay at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul on Friday. It will be South Korea’s first friendly this month before taking on Panama on Tuesday.

South Korea have yet to beat Uruguay in men’s football, only collecting one draw and six losses. The two sides last met in September 2014, and South Korea suffered a 1-0 loss.

The Taeguk Warriors will try to break a long winless drought against Uruguay with new head coach Paulo Bento, who made his South Korea debut last month. Under Bento, South Korea beat Costa Rica 2-0 and collected a 0-0 draw against Chile.
Bento announced the 25-man squad that includes six players who didn’t feature in September friendlies. A noticeable addition is Stade de Reims striker Suk Hyun-jun, who returned to the national team for the first time in two years.

Bento said he wanted to test Suk, who had stints with AFC Ajax and FC Porto, after FC Augsburg forward Ji Dong-won became unavailable due to injury. Suk, who has four goals in 11 matches, will compete for a starting spot with Hwang Ui-jo, who was the top scorer at the Asian Games.

Former Borussia Dortmund man Park Joo-ho is also looking for his first national team action under Bento. The 31-year-old can play as both a left back and defensive midfielder.

Goalkeepers will have fierce competition to win the starting spot since Jo Hyeon-woo, who was South Korea’s No. 1 custodian at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, joined the national team. The Daegu FC goalkeeper was originally included in the roster for September friendlies, but was dropped later due to a knee injury.

Jo will have to compete against Kim Seung-gyu and Kim Jin-hyeon, who both play in the Japanese league.

Pohang Steelers midfielder Lee Jin-hyun, a member of the gold medal-winning team at the Asian Games, and Gyeongnam FC center back Park Ji-soo will try to make their first senior national team debut against Uruguay.
Against Uruguay, Bento said he’ll check whether his players execute tactics and display the team’s style of play. The Portuguese tactician is especially looking to improve South Korea’s offense, using players like Son Heung-min, Lee Jae-sung and Nam Tae-hee, who are expected to show their presence in the attacking third.

South Korean attackers will need to overcome Uruguay’s solid defense that is led by Atletico Madrid’s veteran defender Diego Godin. He is one of seven players from the Uruguayan squad that faced South Korea in the 2014 friendly.

Uruguay’s star-studded squad doesn’t include FC Barcelona star Luis Suarez, but Paris St. Germain striker Edinson Cavani and Girona target man Cristhian Stuani are ready to give stern tests to South Korean defenders.

Cavani, who won scoring titles in the Italian Serie A and the French Ligue 1, is known for his movement off the ball and goal poaching instincts, while Stuani is currently the hottest striker in the Spanish La Liga. Stuani scored 21 goals in the top Spanish league last season, and he is currently the leading scorer with eight goals this season.

In the midfield, South Korea need to deal with Uruguay’s star midfielders who are with big European clubs. Rodrigo Bentancur of Juventus, Lucas Torreira of Arsenal and Matias Vecino of Internazionale are likely to give a difficult time to South Korean midfielders Ki Sung-yueng and Jung Woo-young.

England vs Croatia

England vs Croatia: World Cup rivalry renewed in Nations League. Watch Croatia v England  on Sky Sports Main Event Old rivalries will be renewed when England take on Croatia in the  Croatia vs England UEFA Nations League on Friday – a clash which will be played behind closed doors in Rijeka. Gareth Southgate has backed England.

England take on Croatia in Rijeka in the Uefa Nations League just 93 days after they suffered World Cup semi-final heartbreak against the same opponents.

The League A Group 4 match will be played behind closed doors as the hosts complete a Uefa ground ban for having a swastika on the pitch during a Euro 2016 qualifier against Italy. Five-hundred hardy England supporters have reportedly still made the trip to Croatia.

Sky Sports Main Event from 7pm or Sky Sports Football from 7.30pm. Or you can watch highlights on ITV 1 at 10.45pm.

It is a measure of manager Zlatko Dalic’s confidence in his team that before England had even arrived in Rijeka on Thursday the Croatia manager publically named his starting XI.

There will be no Milan Mandzukic in the side, and both the Croatian full-backs who played against England in the semi-final, Sime Vrsaljko and Ivan Strinic, are out. But Dalic expects his star midfielders, Luka Modric and Ivan Raikitic, along with Chelsea loanee Mateo Kovacic, to be closer to their best than they were last month against Spain when a jaded Croatia were still suffering from their long summer and got thumped 6-0.

Gareth Southgate, the England manager, is considering a change of formation. It would be a move away from the 3-5-2 he used at the World Cup to such effect. He knew it was always something of an emergency measure. If England are to beat leading nations such as Croatia they need to eventually alter their approach, which is why he is mulling over a 4-3-3.

If that happens, it may be Kieran Trippier who drops out at right-back, because it seems that Kyle Walker will play – either at right-back or as the right-sided central defender – ahead of Joe Gomez, with Ben Chilwell earning a first competitive start. The 21-year-old is the only specialist left-back in the squad, with both Luke Shaw and Danny Rose having withdrawn and, while Trippier could be moved across, it seems the specialist, Chilwell, will be selected.

In midfield, it appears that Ross Barkley’s confident resurgence at Chelsea under manager Maurizio Sarri will be rewarded with a first appearance for England since May 2016 when he came on in a friendly against Australia for the last of his 22 caps.

“The song (Three Lions) is humour isn’t it – it is English humour. Unless you’re a fan of Fawlty Towers and stuff like that maybe you don’t get the slant on it. It is interesting how we are viewed by the rest of the world sometimes when you travel.

“I’m always putting across the importance of representing our country in the right way and I think the rest of the world does sometimes view us in a certain way and feel that we have a sense of entitlement.

“But I can only speak for this group of players and this group of staff – it is not how we work and is not what we believe.

“We want to be competitive and we don’t want to be showing too much respect on the pitch but certainly in terms of what we believe of the opponents, particularly some of the players in this team, we couldn’t have more respect for them.”

Southgate on playing behind closed doors:

“It will be a strange experience. I guess we effectively do that every day of our lives – we play football in front of a handful of people watching, so it’s not totally unique. But for a match situation, in an international, very different.

“I am sure Croatia feel the same. For them, not to have the encouragement of what is an incredibly passionate support will be very different for them.

“So it’s a shame especially for our travelling fans, who were brilliant for us all summer and so many of whom haven’t missed an England game for years. That’s unfortunate for them in particular.”

Luka Modric on Harry Kane:

“If you look at the number of goals he is scoring for Tottenham Hotspur, taking them into the Premier League title race which isn’t easy because other clubs are investing more money, then he’s proved himself one of the world’s best forwards already. If he continues to develop, he can achieve even more, but he’s already one of the best in the world.”
Gareth Southgate’s squad cannot match Croatia’s experience, but the England manager has scoffed at the suggestion his side will be experimental in Rijeka. And switching to a 4-3-3 formation may even make them more competitive. Home advantage will count for nothing behind closed doors. And revenge will be in the air.Predicted score: Croatia 1 England 2.
